In October 1971, I was a participant in the Head of the Charles. Several of our varsity oarsmen were away that term, so we entered a four in the "senior 4's" category. I was the Cox'n, the stroke was Danny Moors '72, 3 was Jim Nicotri '72, 2 was Charlie Arnold '73, and bow was Doug Knudson '72. Our captain that year was George Buesing '72, who was off campus that term. George came to cheer us on, and took the attached photo from the river bank. Despite a heavy night of celebrating the night before (Dartmouth had beaten Harvard on a last second field goal in one of the best football games ever), we actually won the race and set a course record that stood for about ten years. George went to medical school after Dartmouth, and tragically died of leukemia while he was a resident in medicine. We didn't have a great crew that year, finished about 14th in the IRA, but this was a real highlight.
