The Dartmouth Rowing Club placed the Biglin Bowl in competition in 1955. It is contested among Dartmouth, Harvard, and MIT and honors John A. Biglin, a professional oarsman who was the first coach of rowing at Dartmouth in 1873.
Harvard has won the bowl 44 times and MIT five time. Dartmouth wins came in: 1994, 2002, 2006 and 2008. MIT won the first race in 1955 and won again in 1963, 1964, and 1980 - breaking Harvard's string of 15 consecutive wins. Harvard reclaimed the Biglin Bowl in 1981 from
MIT and kept it in 1982, before MIT regained it again in 1983.
